HCL Domino hosting, management and upgrades

Domino runs some of the most important applications in the UK public sector: finance approvals, case management, document control and mail. Our managed Domino service keeps it secure, supported and current, whether it lives in our data centres or yours. Blue Sky has provided Domino hosting for UK public sector and regulated organisations for over 20 years.

What is HCL Domino?

HCL Domino (formerly IBM Lotus Notes and Domino) is a server platform for business applications, workflow and email. Many UK councils, NHS bodies and government departments still run finance, case management and document control systems on it. HCL Software has owned and developed Domino since 2019; the current release is 14.5.

Domino hosting or remote management: two ways to work with us

Hosted by Blue Sky

We run your Domino environment in UK data centres on infrastructure we own and manage.

  • Dedicated or virtual servers sized for your workload
  • Operating system, Domino and security patching handled for you
  • Daily backups with off-site copies and regular test restores
  • 24/7 monitoring with engineer escalation
  • 99.99% availability for dedicated servers

Managed on your infrastructure

Keep Domino on your own servers, in your own data centre or private cloud. We connect over a secure VPN, monitor it continuously and manage it remotely exactly as we would if we were on site.

  • Monitoring of servers, disk, services and replication
  • Proactive patching, maintenance and fixes
  • Optional remote backup service
  • No travel, no call-out delays, no waiting for a site visit

From £350 a month, all-inclusive.

Both include a named technical contact, a two-hour response to support requests in business hours (8am–6pm, Monday to Friday) and 24/7 cover for anything service-affecting.

Domino support and upgrades

Many estates are still on Domino 9, 10 or early 11. They work, but vendor support, security fixes and operating system compatibility are slipping away.

Our Domino upgrade service starts with an audit of your estate, then upgrades servers first and clients after. Downtime is limited to agreed maintenance windows.

Application review

Before an upgrade or a hosting move we map what you're actually running: which databases are used, which are dormant, which are business critical and what they connect to. You get a clear picture of what to keep, what to retire and what to modernise with HCL Nomad or REST APIs.

HCL Nomad: Domino apps in the browser

Nomad gives users access to existing Notes applications from a web browser or tablet, without installing or maintaining the Notes client. It's often the quickest way to extend the life and reach of applications that already work.

Domino IQ: private AI on your own data

Domino IQ lets you run generative AI against your Domino data without sending it to a public AI service. It needs well-specified, secure infrastructure. We provide and manage it in the UK, so your data stays under your control.

Licensing

We supply HCL Domino licences and handle Domino licence renewals, additional licences and reinstatement of lapsed support, and make sure your licensing is in order before any upgrade starts. We also supply HCL Domino licences and can review your licence position before renewal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Domino hosting?

Domino hosting means your HCL Domino servers run in a provider's data centre instead of your own, with the provider looking after the hardware, operating system, backups, monitoring and Domino administration. Blue Sky hosts Domino in UK data centres under ISO 27001, and can also manage Domino servers remotely where they need to stay on your own site.

How much does managed Domino cost?

Remote management of Domino on your own infrastructure starts from £350 a month, all-inclusive. Hosted Domino is priced on the size of your environment.

What is HCL Nomad?

HCL Nomad lets people use existing Notes and Domino applications in a web browser or on a tablet without installing the Notes client.

What is Domino IQ?

Domino IQ is the AI feature introduced in Domino 14.5. It runs a language model alongside your Domino server, so you can use generative AI on your Domino data without sending it to a public AI service.

When does support for Domino 9, 10 and 11 end?

Standard support for Domino 9 and 10 ended on 1 June 2024 and for Domino 11 on 26 June 2025. HCL offers paid extended support for all three until 30 June 2030.

Is Domino legacy software?

No. HCL has released Domino 12, 14 and 14.5 with modern authentication, container support, REST APIs and AI capabilities. The risk is usually an estate that hasn't been upgraded, not the platform. Read more

Can you take over a Domino environment someone else set up?

Yes. Inherited estates with limited documentation are common, so we always start with a review and nothing comes as a surprise.

Can you move our Domino servers from our site into your data centre?

Yes. We plan, test and run the move with a rollback position, usually alongside an upgrade.

Do you work to our change windows?

Yes. We already do this for councils and NHS-linked teams.

Where is our data held?

In the UK. Hosting, support and data residency are UK-based.
